Blog Assignment # 4: Persuasive Argument

I am acting in defense for Mr.Hyde. This young woman said that she saw Mr.Hyde brutally murdered Sir Danvers Carew which happens to a member of Parliament. But how can we take her word for this heinous act? Does she have any purf that it was him? From what point did she see the murder? How can we know if she is telling the truth and not her who killed Sir Danvers Carew?. Without any other witnesses or porf how can we be 100% sure that he was the one that murdered this man.

  1. Be careful of your choice in colors for your blog post. I could barely read this post! I commend you for choosing to defend Hyde. First and foremost, you will need to think of a powerful opening and closing statement that will capture the attention of the jury (Victorian citizens). The middle of your writing/speech should focus on the reasons that Hyde should not be convicted of this murder. I think you have a great first point (the credibility of the witness/female maid). Elaborate on this point a bit. Take your time explaining with facts, quotes, and events that prove her lack of credibility. Now you need to have some other reasons that prove Hyde's innocence. Try to think of what the prosecution will probably try to say in order to prove he is guilty. Then you can try to deconstruct their argument. Check out some of your peer's blogs and see what types of reasons they have for prosecuting Hyde. One last hint: try to watch some courtroom TV drama or view clips of courtroom final statements on youtube. This will allow you to notice some of the common legal language and phrases that are used that will make your writing/speech more realistic. Best of luck.
